The Greeniac crew joined the excellent techs from Products Plus, Inc. on a visit to the Missouri Department of Transportation.

We checked out a new International, and we found the radiator was filled with a new nitrite-free coolant, this time in a golden/yellow color.

It’s critical, for extended-life performace and to prevent nitrite failure, that these new pieces of equipment be maintained with an organic acid technology antifreeze, like the ones available from Products Plus, Inc. and Clear Choice Antifreeze.

Finally Saw Poly Organic Antifreeze as a Factory Fill

We’re in the field almost every day.

We’ve been expecting to see poly organic, nitrite-free antifreeze as a factory fill for quite some time.

We finally saw it. Two 2011 Freightliners had bright red coolant that tested negative for nitrites.

If you’re wondering what’s in your new equipment, dip a test strip. If the bottom pad doesn’t turn pink, chances are you have a poly organic and are protected against nitrite-damage to aluminum radiators and heater cores.

Remember: it’s a best practice not to add nitrite to these newer, technologically advanced coolants.

Four Reasons for Antifreeze – Reason Number One

Antifreeze is in your system for four very important reasons.

The first, seemingly obvious, is anti freeze. You don’t want your car engine freezing up, especially if you live in northern States or if you’re taking a trip to the mountains.

Glycol is much better for antifreeze than water is since its freeze point is much lower than that of water.

But the mixture of glycol and water will provide optimal protection.
